How to cook popcorn three different ways. Popcorn must be one of the simplest and most fun healthy snack you can cook. I have added three different styles so you can choose. From microwave popcorn to stove cooked popcorn. Chose from Caramel popcorn, butter popcorn or pizza popcorn. Make them in around 10 minutes or even less. Never buy popcorn ready made again.
Ingredients
Basic Popcorn
½ cup popping corn kernels
1 tablespoon oil (grapeseed, coconut or other)
3 pinches of fine salt
For the Caramel Popcorn
1 cup salted butter 225g
1 cup sugar (and a little water)
¼ teaspoon fine salt
1 teaspoon baking soda (Bi Carb)
For the pizza popcorn
2 tbsp dried oregano
1 tbsp garlic powder
4 tbsp olive oil
1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
For the butter popcorn
4oz - 115g salted butter
Steps
Step 1
FOR THE BASIC POPCORN (use for the 3 recipes)
Place one table spoon of oil in a pan on high heat. Add the salt. Add half a cup of the corn kernels and cover with a lid. Give the pot a shake holding the lid. Once the corn starts to pop approx 60 to 90 seconds, keep giving the pot a shake every five seconds.
Step 2
FOR THE CARAMEL COATED POPCORN
In a clean saucepan, add the sugar with a little bit of water to barely soak the sugar. Turn on to full heat. Bring to the boil until the sugar starts to change colour and tursn into a caramel. Once it reaches the correct colour, (not too light and not too dark) turn off the heat and very carefully add the butter. Do bot splash or you will severely burn yourself, so be very careful. Use smaller pieces to be extra safe. Mix the butter well until dissolved. Add the baking soda, continue mixing until it foams and rises. Add your cooked popcorn to the mixture and mix well with a spatula or spoon. Once evenly mixed and all the popcorn is coated in caramel, pour contents in a parchment paper lined baking sheet pan. Spread out flat and leave to cool. Serve once cold.
Step 3
FOR THE PIZZA FLAVOUR POPCORN
Sprinkle the hot popcorn with garlic powder, oregano and grated parmesan cheese. Give it a good mix, drizzle with olive oil and mix again. Serve immediately.
Step 4
FOR THE BUTTER POPCORN
Simply melt the butter either in microwave or on the stove. Pour hot butter in a warm or hot mixing bowl and add the hot popcorn.
